We’ve all heard the classic, well-intentioned advice: “Don’t reinvent the wheel”. The saying implies that if a perfectly good solution already exists, starting from scratch is a massive waste of time and energy.

But let’s challenge that for a moment. If humanity had collectively agreed to never touch the design of the wheel again after its initial creation in the Neolithic period, we would still be riding around on heavy, solid stone discs chopped from blocks of rock.

The truth is, progress doesn't happen by just accepting what works; it happens because the invention of the improved wheel never stops.

The Evolution of the Circle

True innovation rarely requires you to discover a brand-new geometric shape. The core concept—the circle that rotates on an axle—remains unchanged. However, look at how the execution of that concept has evolved over thousands of years:

The Spoked Wheel: Ancient engineers cut out the heavy, solid wood center, adding spokes to make chariots faster, lighter, and more agile.
The Pneumatic Tire: Rubber filled with compressed air replaced rigid iron rims, absorbing shock and fundamentally shifting how we travel.
The NASA Rover Wheel: Today, rovers on Mars use custom, shape-memory alloy mesh wheels built to survive jagged alien terrain without ever going flat.

None of these pioneers reinvented the foundational concept of rolling. Instead, they took a proven archetype and optimized it for new, demanding environments.

Why the "Improved Wheel" Matters Today

This philosophy isn't just about transport infrastructure—it applies to software development, product design, and personal growth.

When you build a new application, write a fresh piece of code, or design a product, you are standing on the shoulders of giants. You utilize pre-existing frameworks, design patterns, and historical knowledge. But if you merely copy what has been done without looking for friction points, efficiency drops, and technological progress stalls.

Building an improved wheel means looking at an existing solution and asking: How can this be faster? How can this be more sustainable? How can we make this accessible to a completely different audience?

Innovation is a Moving Target

The moment we declare a solution "perfect" is the moment we stop moving forward. The world changes, technology advances, and the problems we face grow more complex. An optimization that worked seamlessly ten years ago might be sluggish and outdated by today's standards.

Don't let the fear of redundancy scare you away from iterating. You don't need to dream up a brand-new universe to be an innovator. Look at what already works, find its limitations, and build a better version. After all, the road to the future isn't paved with original ideas alone—it is traversed on wheels that are constantly being made better.

Lately, there has been a massive wave of spam links spreading across Facebook. We’ve all seen them on our news feeds—weird links or shocking videos shared by friends. The problem is, if you click on one of these untrusted external links out of curiosity, it instantly hijacks your browser session. Before you know it, the link automatically posts itself onto your own wall or forces you to "like" a random page without your permission.

Since we don't have an easy way to safely preview these links, here is a simple but highly effective trick to protect your account: use a secondary browser.

What you need to do:

Copy the link: If you see an external link that you don't trust, do not click it. Instead, right-click and copy the link.
Open a different browser: If you are currently using Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome to browse Facebook, open up a completely different browser that you rarely use, like Opera, Safari, or Internet Explorer.
Stay logged out: Make sure you are completely logged out of Facebook on this second browser.
Paste and check: Paste the link into the address bar of that second browser and open it.

Why this works:

These annoying spam links rely entirely on your active Facebook login session in your current browser. When you open the link in a completely separate browser where you aren't logged in, the spam script has no access to your account. This completely nullifies its actions—it won't be able to post on your wall or force you to like anything.

Stay safe out there and protect your profile!

Today is October 10, 2010.
\nThere is a lot of analysis going on about today's date, resulting in many status messages.
\nIn the dd/mm/yy format, the date (10/10/10) forms the number 101010, which looks like a binary number.

\n\n

Let's expand on this a bit more. At 10:10:10 AM, the date and time combined become 10/10/10 10:10:10. This is also a binary number and can be rewritten as 101010-101010.

\n\nNow, let's convert this number (101010101010) into various bases:\n

Hex: AAA
Dec: 2730
Oct: 5252
Bin: 101010101010

\n\n

Finally:
\nTriple A = AAA = 2730 = 5252 = 101010-101010 = 10/10/10 10:10:10
\nNumerical Day in Different Bases.
